HURRICANE re-issues

Should you have been trying for a longer period of time to get your hands on an original – rather rare – copy of HURRICANE’s „Over the Edge“ or „Slave to the Thrill“ CD, you probably would have needed to pay a lot of money.
But in the last few months one could always find the occasional silver disc on the market, which was relatively low priced and was in many cases even called a “brand new” release …. nothing else but a “bootleg”. Now in regards to bootlegs there a many different opinions. On the one side it is obvious that any collector is extremely anxious to call a Hurricane CD his own. On the other side there is the huge risk that only after this CD was purchased it is noticed that it was an illegal copy. There are the people, who don’t care where this release is coming from and there are others, who are annoyed or even feel guilty, because … another negative point is even more problematic. In most cases the artists were not involved in those reissuing activities, most of them never realize what is happening and therefore they will never receive one cent for the sales achievements. Because in the case of most of these rarities (i.e. Vanadium, Frontrunner, …) the original license rights were set up in a dubious and complicated way and in addition a lot of those labels do not exist anymore, the risk for the creators of these bootlegs is very limited.
The damage done does not only have a material impact and since we all love and value this music so much it is the opinion of the authors of this review that it is not right to support this kind of unfair competition.
Seeing that there are a number of very professional and legal reissues on the market, made by well known labels such as: MTM Classix, Escape, Rock Candy or Frontiers, it would make a lot more sense to support these labels and to ignore the black sheep of the trade.
Thanks to the kind support of EMI GERMANY, 3 regular and remastered HURRICANE versions are now being released: "Over The Edge", „Take What You Want” and „Slave To The Thrill” with the originally banned woman-cover of 1990.
It is not necessary to waste a lot of time to describe these classics because already the names of the band members speak for themselves: Kelly Hansen (lead vocals); Doug Aldrich (guitars, vocals); Tony Cavazo (bass, vocals) and Jay Schellen (drums, percussion, vocals). What we have here is melodic hardrock of the highest order with Kelly's superb voice, the perfect guitar performance of Doug and a phenomenal rhythm section. The extremely convincing background vocals make this release a real masterpiece.
We will not have to wait too long for the next legal reissues as with “Slave To The Thrill" and „Take What You Want” are following end of July.
