Release: 22.02.2008

Former ANGRA singer Andre Matos is well known and liked by the metal fans, because heīs able to carry a song nearly alone as he has got a technical perfect way of singing.

Thatīs why he was in the Top 3 finalists alongside James LaBrie (DREAM THEATHER) on the contest for replacing Bruce Dickinson in IRON MAIDEN and is very often booked for power metal projects like AVANTASIA or AINA .
I know Andre Matos from his project VIRGO with Sascha Paeth, who is also responible for the production of this solo album together with Roy Z. It wasnīt the same metal sound with VIRGO as it now with "Time To Be Free", but his voice already fascinated me. I have to confess, that I donīt be fond of ANGRA as well of his other bands VIPER and SHAAMAN.
For his first solo project Andre Matos is accompanied by a lot of fellows from these mentioned bands, so itīs a feeling " a bit like coming home".
At the beginning of "Time To Be Free" there is a "Menuett", which relays to his musical education in orchestral conducting and composing, which this brazilian guy did after leaving VIPER. A touch of RONDO VENEZIANO until the intro of "Letting Go" explodes, when Eloy Casagrande shows his abilities at the drums. This guy is marvellous, a phenomenon on drums and is (you wonīt believe it) just 16 years old! The double base is burning while Andre Matos celebrates his very melodic singing part with an incredible souvereign coolness. The opener is quite variable, fascinates with symphonic interludes and impresses me at once, apart from the fact that I am no lover of too fast metal songs. With "Rio" I like that guitar riff from the beginning of this track which is recognizeable throughout the whole song and that world music middle part (seems as you can even see the Capoeira boys), but it seems a bit hectic although there are partly parallels to some IRON MAIDEN stuff. I love the orchestra and the bagpipes of "Remember Why", the track keeps the thrill also in faster parts and is one of my recommendations. "How Long (Unleashed Away)" is in style of EDGUY, and the following "Looking Back" is surely the most commercial track. Maybe a bit fast and bombastic in the rear part, but perfect for airplay, simply beautiful! "Face The End" is one of the calmer tracks, even reminds me partly to MAGNUM, I am again fascinates by an incredible orchestral instrumentation. The following title track is the first of two very long musical shortstories which is quite variable in its 8 1/2 minutes. After the song "Rescue" which has a slightly progressive touch comes the second song with overtime, "A New Moonlight". This song was first issued on the VIPER album "Theatre Of Fate" and pleases me with a thrilling atmosphere throughout its almost nine minutes, like I know it from older QUEEN tracks. Overwhelming! The simple but fast metal track "Endeavour" closes an album which positively surprised me.
The album was already released in Japan in end of summer last year, Iīm happy that is also available in Europe now.
